Porlock is surrounded by a variety of lovely National Trust villages,
each with its own special character. Bossington is a beautiful village, untouched by time with its lime washed cottages with traditional tall chimneys and bread ovens.

Allerford has a famous Packhorse Bridge and is home to a delightful museum housed in the old school. Children can experience the life of Victorian children.
Then there is Horner, a designated nature reserve, Lynch, Luccombe and Selworthy. The latter is a picture postcard village dominated by its church, coated with a mixture of lime and tallow. The chocolate box cottages which surround the village green are seen on many cards and calendars. |

Just 7 miles away is the bustling town of Minehead with its amusements, leisure facilities and 18 hole golf course. A long stretch of beach with promenade leads you to the start of the Southwest Coast Path.
The Coleridge Way - Walkers can now follow in the footsteps of romantic poet Samuel Taylor Coleridge by taking a new route from Nether Stowey to Porlock.
Minehead is also the home of the West Somerset Railway and the birth place of Arthur C Clarke.

A little further to the East is the medieval village of Dunster with its Yarn Market and Castle.
Take a 20 minute panoramic drive west via either the famous Porlock Hill or a picturesque Toll road across the moor into Devon and discover Lynton and Lynmouth (aptly named England 's little Switzerland).
Within the hour you can reach an enormity of top attractions while experiencing truly glorious scenery. |
